Ada County property tax reduction program applications now being accepted

The Ada County Assessor’s Office is now accepting applications for enrollment in the 2012 State of Idaho Property Tax Reduction and Property Tax Deferral programs.  Residents are encouraged to submit applications as early as possible before the Monday, April 16, 2012 deadline.

 Arrested: Tanner R. Priest, 22, Idaho Falls

   Charges: Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Marijuana)(F), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (m)

   Arrested: Zedeck M. Alade, 22, Boise

   Charges: Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Marijuana)(F), Failure to Appear charges (m)

    Boise Police on patrol early this morning, January 27th, at approximately 12:30 a.m. observed a vehicle with one headlight out and the other headlight on bright traveling West on Nez Perce Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop near Nez Perce and Shoshone Streets. As officers contacted the driver they noted the distinct odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A check through Ada County Records indicated the passenger, Zedeck Alade, had a current warrant for his arrest out of Bonneville County on failure to appear charges. Officers recovered from the suspects' persons and vehicle, a total of 33 grams total package weight of marijuana, zip lock baggies and other items of drug paraphernalia. Officers have evidence that the suspects had been involved in the sale of the controlled substance. The suspects were booked at the Ada County Jail on the above listed charges.

Boise mayor to hold Saturday Office hours for residents

Mayor David Bieter will take his "Saturday Office Hours" on the road this Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Collister Library, 4724 W. State St. The event is open to all residents and will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

No appointment is necessary. Visitors will be welcomed on a first-come basis and will have up to 10 minutes each to talk to Mayor Bieter about any topic related to city government.

Mayor Bieter has conducted his "Saturday Office Hours" sessions every few months since taking office in 2004. All citizens are encouraged to participate by bringing to the Mayor's attention any issue they feel is important. There is no limit to possible topics for discussion; past conversations have included the City's budget, ideas on how to improve the city, transportation issues, and many others.

 

BPD: Man receives felony DUI near Latah Street

Arrested: Fletcher D. Fountain, 44, Boise

Charges: Driving Under the Influence (DUI)(F), Probation Violation charges (F)

Boise Police observed a vehicle fail to yield to a stop sign and fail to signal as it struggled to maintain its lane early Saturday morning, January 21st, at approximately 2:00 a.m. Officers stopped the vehicle near Overland and Latah Street. The suspect, who appeared to be very intoxicated at the time, failed several field sobriety tests and a blood draw was performed for later evidentiary testing. A check through Ada County Records indicated the suspect had prior convictions for DUI making this charge a felony. The suspect was booked at the Ada County Jail on the above listed charges.

The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.

BOISE - Interstate 84, Cole Road to Broadway Avenue widening

Five weeks of east- and westbound interstate lane closures began Jan. 9 between the Orchard and Broadway interchanges.

The lane closures will be in effect from Jan. 9 until mid-February while crews work on overhead sign foundations. Motorists can also expect intermittent overnight restrictions, reducing traffic to two lanes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 - Eastbound I-84 will be reduced to three lanes and one ramp lane between the Orchard and Vista interchanges.

- Westbound I-84 will be reduced to three lanes and one ramp lane between the Broadway and Vista interchanges.

The speed limit will be 55 mph during the five weeks of lane closures.

The lane closures are part of a project to widen I-84 to four lanes in both directions between Cole/Overland and Broadway. The widening was completed in the summer of 2011.

Concrete Placing Co. Inc., of Boise, is the contractor on the $35.9 million project.

Man charged with burglary, grand theft

Arrested: Michael B. Bracy, 21, Boise

   Charges: Burglary (F), Grand Theft (F), 

  Warrant Charges: Probation Violation (F), Failure to Appear (m)

    Boise Police arrested Michael Bracy yesterday, January 19th, after a detailed investigation into two incidents that took place this month at a convenience store on the 5700 block of West Overland. On January 10th at approximately 11:30 p.m. officers have evidence that the suspect had stolen the victims wallet after she left it on the counter at the store. On January 18th, employees tell officers the suspect selected four alcoholic beverages and exited the store without paying for them. The suspect was identified and officers determined he had two outstanding warrants for his arrest on probation violation and failure to appear charges. Yesterday, the suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges.
